I just landed back in NYC, and I'm not particularly thrilled to be here (sweaty subway cars, nightly dinners in the office, and $16 margaritas at the local cantina). Life is a whole lot easier when mornings consist of huevos a la canasta and afternoons of Nurf football on the beach. Plus, the Caribbean views from the infinity pool at the Bel Air Cancun can’t really be beat.
'For me, layering up with broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 40 is vital.'
Whenever Mr. SB and I travel to a tropical destination we're not the sit and bake in the sun type of people. Instead, play in the ocean, swim in the pool, seek adventure and go exploring types. As I’ve had one too many run-ins with precancerous melanomas before, layering up with broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 40 is vital.
'All too often my combination/sensitive skin gets aggravated or the sunscreen melts into my eyes...'
Out of all the natural and organic sunscreens I've tried (and there have been many) Josie Maran’s Broad Spectrum Daily Face Moisturizer (Update: the SPF is now 47) and Vivesana Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Solar to Polar Ultra are my absolute favorites. Josie Maran's natural sunscreen is one of the only sunscreens I can use on my face. All too often my combination and sensitive skin gets aggravated or the sunscreen melts into my eyes, irritating them for the rest of the day. Vivesana Broad Spectrum SPF 40 is a thicker sunscreen, which can be used on the face or body. This natural sunscreen lasts for hours, although the recommended reapplication time is two hours, which is perfect for running in and out of the water all day long.
